Regional Entomological Sciences Consultant (ES)

Mission / Role

The mission of Entomological Sciences is to maximize force readiness and protection by minimizing and managing the adverse health, strategic, economic, and morale impacts of pests and vector-borne diseases. The regional Entomological Sciences (ES) Consultant serves as subject matter expert (SME) to, and liaison between, the installation Departments of Public Health (DPH) and DoD, State, and Federal agencies that are involved in biosurveillance and disease threat reduction. The Consultant is a proponent of a multi-disciplinary approach to disease prevention using a One Health approach. The consultant provides oversight, guidance, technical support, and consultation to installation DPH departments within Medical Readiness Command, East’s and Defense Health Network East’s area of operations.
 
 
Capabilities

  • Adjudicate requests from installation DPH/EH for area support that exceed the department’s capacity
  • Identify legacy and emerging ES issues and recommend necessary control measures or risk assessments in collaboration with Deputy Chief of Staff, force Health Protection (DCS, FHP), Regional Public health Command, installation DPH/EH and Defense Health Agency – Public Health (DHA-PH)
  • Audit ES elements of the EH program (Organization Inspection Program) to assess performance and compliance with Army, Federal, and State regulations
  • Participate in various Public Health working groups to address regional policies and issues relating to ES.
  • Work collaboratively with DHA-PH EH, DHN East, installation DPH/EH and other stakeholders to ensure requests for information are effectively communicated to promote, shape, and advance EH-ES throughout the service area.

Regional Environmental Health Consultant (EH)

Mission / Role

The mission of Environmental Health is to reduce the adverse impact to the warfighter from Environmental Health risks related to air, water, soil and food. The Regional Environmental Health Consultant (EH) bridges the gap between the installation Departments of Public Health (DPH) and EH, Regional and Defense Health Agency (DHA) EH programs. The consultant provides oversight, guidance, technical support and consultation to installation DPH and EH departments within Medical Readiness Command, East’s and Defense Health Network East’s areas of responsibility (13 military treatment facilities and their health service area) on EH responsibilities in accordance with the applicable regulations. Additionally, the Regional EH Consultant advises Commanders and senior leaders of the EH risks within their area of responsibility and provide appropriate mitigation procedures.

Regional Industrial Hygiene Consultant (IH)

Mission / Role

The mission of Industrial Hygiene is to anticipate, recognize, evaluate, and control environmental factors or stressors arising in or from the workplace, which may cause sickness, impaired health and well-being, or significant discomfort among the military and civilian workforce. The Regional Industrial Hygiene (IH) Consultant bridges the gap between the Industrial Hygiene Program Offices (IHPOs), their local Departments of Public Health (DPH), Regional Health Command, Defense Center for Public Health-Aberdeen, and Defense Health Agency (DHA) assets. The consultant provides oversight, guidance, technical support and consultation to the IHPOs within Medical Readiness Command, East’s and Defense Health Network East’s areas of responsibility including IH responsibilities in accordance with the applicable regulations.
