Regional Industrial Hygiene Consultant (IH)
Mission / Role
The mission of Industrial Hygiene is to anticipate, recognize, evaluate, and control environmental factors or stressors arising in or from the workplace, which may cause sickness, impaired health and well-being, or significant discomfort among the military and civilian workforce. The Regional Industrial Hygiene (IH) Consultant bridges the gap between the Industrial Hygiene Program Offices (IHPOs), their local Departments of Public Health (DPH), Regional Health Command, Defense Center for Public Health-Aberdeen, and Defense Health Agency (DHA) assets. The consultant provides oversight, guidance, technical support and consultation to the IHPOs within Medical Readiness Command, East’s and Defense Health Network East’s areas of responsibility including IH responsibilities in accordance with the applicable regulations. Additionally, the Regional IH Consultant advises Commanders and senior leaders of the IH risks within their area of responsibility and provide appropriate mitigation procedures.
Capabilities
- Adjudicate requests from IHPOs for area support that exceed the department’s capacity
- Identify legacy and emerging IH issues and recommend necessary control measures or risk assessments in collaboration with Deputy Chief of Staff, Force Health Protection (DCS, FHP), Regional Public Health Command, local IHPO and DHA-Public Health
- Audit IH program (Organizational Inspection Program) to assess performance and compliance with Army regulations
- Participate in various Public Health working groups to address regional policies and issues relating to IH
- Work collaboratively with DHA, DHN East, local IHPOs, and other stakeholders to ensure requests for information are effectively communicated to promote, shape and advance IH throughout the service area
