FORT MEADE, MD – 11 September 2025 – Public Health Command, East (PHC, East) personnel joined the Fort Meade community this morning in a moving demonstration of remembrance and respect during the annual Patriot Day Run. Alongside Service Members, Civilians, and Families, PHC, East staff participated in the event to honor the memory of those lost and the sacrifices made during the Global War on Terror. Notably, all Veterinary Readiness Activities (VRAs) within PHC, East joined in commemoration of the September 11th event, reemphasizing the command’s commitment to national remembrance and unity.

The event provided a powerful opportunity for PHC, East Personnel to stand in solidarity with the Fort Meade community and reflect on the enduring impact of the tragic events of 9/11. Participation from the VRAs highlighted the breadth of PHC, East’s dedication to supporting the overall well-being of the force, extending beyond traditional public health roles to encompass a shared sense of national duty. Leading the team was PHC, East Commander, COL Justin R. Schlanser, who also participated in the run and commended the team for their strong showing and dedication to honoring the solemn occasion.

Following the run, PHC, East Personnel also attended the ceremony honoring first responders held at the Fort Meade Fire Department. This ceremony served as a poignant tribute to the bravery and selflessness of those who responded to the attacks and continue to protect our communities. The collective participation of PHC, East in both the run and the ceremony reinforced the command’s commitment to honoring the past and supporting a resilient future. This morning’s events served as a powerful reminder of the enduring spirit of resilience and unity that defines our nation, and PHC, East was proud to participate alongside the Fort Meade community.
