1SG ALEXIS MCCURDY
First Sergeant, Veterinary Readiness Activity, Fort Eisenhower
First Sergeant Alexis McCurdy was born in Fort Walton Beach, FL. She enlisted in the U.S. Army in 2005. 1SG McCurdy’s first assignment was to Fort Liberty, NC, with the 248th Medical Detachment Veterinary Service Support (MDVSS), 44th Medical Brigade from 2006-2008. She deployed with the MDVSS as an Animal Care Specialist to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation New Dawn. Upon redeployment to North Carolina, she completed Basic Leaders Course and moved to her second assignment, Walter Reed Army Institute of Research in Silver Spring, MD. There, 1SG McCurdy assisted in research protocols supporting the advancement of Army medicine from 2008-2012. Her third assignment was to Naval Air Station Sigonella in Sicily, Italy from 2012-2015 where she managed a role 2 veterinary treatment facility responsible for the healthcare of 20 military working dogs across two installations and completed Advanced Leaders Course. From 2015-2018, 1SG McCurdy was stationed at Fort Leavenworth, KS where she became the Platoon Sergeant for Public Health Activity – Fort Carson, Leavenworth Branch. After she completed Senior Leader Course, she was assigned to Fort Liberty, NC, once again with the 248th MDVSS from 2018-2022 where she served as the Operations NCO and as the Detachment Sergeant. She completed Master Leaders Course and deployed to Kuwait in support of Operation Spartan Shield, Operation Inherent Resolve, and Operation Allies Refuge in 2021. 1SG McCurdy assumed responsibility of Veterinary Readiness Activity, Fort Eisenhower on July 13, 2022.
Her military education consists of Basic Leader Course, Installation Veterinary Service Course, Combat Lifesaver Course, Field Sanitation Course, Combatives Master Trainer Course, Advanced Leader Course, Equal Opportunity Leader Course, Unit Prevention Leader Course, Senior Leader Course, Unit Movement Officer Deployment Planning, and Master Leader Course.
1SG McCurdy’s awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal (3 OLC), Army Achievement Medal (9 OLC), Meritorious Unit Commendation, Army Superior Unit Award, Army Good Conduct Medal (5), National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Armed Forces Service Medal, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon (4), Army Service Ribbon, Over Seas Service Ribbon (2), and the Driver / Mechanic Wheeled Vehicle Badge.
