LIEUTENANT COLONEL RACHEL G. TYLER
Commander, Veterinary Readiness Activity, Fort Liberty

 
Lieutenant Colonel (LTC) Rachel G. Tyler, from San Diego, California, began her nursing career after receiving her Bachelor of Science in Nursing and RN License in 1997. She continued her education by achieving a Master of Business Administration in Health Care Management in 2003 and Master of Science in Nursing-Family Nurse Practitioner in 2022. She has worked as a civilian in various nursing specialties such as research and case management, with most of her experience focused on public health nursing. LTC Tyler was previously enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1990 as a medic, and after a long break in service she accessed into the U.S. Army Nurse Corps as a Direct Commission in 2009.
 
Prior to taking command of Veterinary Readiness Activity, Fort Liberty, LTC Tyler served as the Health Promotion Policy Officer at the Pentagon, Deputy Chief of Staff, G-1, Army Resilience Directorate. Her previous assignments include: Assistant Deputy Commander of Nursing, Chief of the Department of Preventive Medicine, and Chief of Army Public Health Nursing (APHN) at Reynolds Army Health Clinic, Fort Sill, OK; Chief of APHN at 121st Combat Support Hospital (CSH) in Yongsan, Korea; Senior Army Public Health Nurse at Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center (CRDAMC), Fort Hood, TX; and Clinical Nurse Officer-in-Charge at 21st CSH, COB Speicher, Iraq and CRDAMC, Fort Hood, TX.
 
LTC Tyler is licensed in Texas and board certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP-BC) and in Ambulatory Care Nursing (AMB-BC) through the American Nurses Credentialing Center. She holds the skill identifier for strategic studies through the completion of the Defense Strategy Course and is a graduate of the Command and General Staff Course.
 
Her awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal (3 Oak Leaf Clusters); Army Commendation Medal (5 Oak Leaf Clusters); Meritorious Unit Commendation; National Defense Service Medal (1 Bronze Service Star); Iraq Campaign Medal (2 Bronze Service Stars); Global War on Terrorism; Korea Defense Service Medal; Army Service Ribbon; Overseas Service Ribbon (3); and Army Staff Identification Badge.
 
LTC Tyler is married to David “Eric” Tyler. They have two sons, Austin and Aidan and two family cats, Leia and Peppy. LTC Tyler’s family resides in Georgetown, TX.
