LIEUTENANT COLONEL JASON R. CRAWFORD
Commander, Veterinary Readiness Activity, Fort Belvoir

 

A native of New Mexico, LTC Crawford earned a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture from New Mexico State University (2005) and is an alumnus of Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity. He earned a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Colorado State University, concurrently completing a Master of Public Health from University of Minnesota, and Graduate Certificate in Veterinary Homeland Security from Purdue University (2009). He later earned a Master of Science in Management & National Security from University of Maryland Global Campus (2022), is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Preventive Medicine, and a Certified Public Health Professional.
 
In 2009, LTC Crawford commissioned into the U.S. Army through the Health Professions Scholarship Program. His active-duty assignments include Veterinary Service / Food Laboratory Squad Leader, 43rd Medical Detachment and 218th Medical Detachment; Special Operations Forces Veterinarian, U.S. Marine Corps Forces Special Operations Command; and Veterinary Pathology Resident, Joint Pathology Center. He deployed in support of Operation Unified Response - Haiti (2010), Operation New Dawn - Iraq (2010 - 2011), and Operation Enduring Freedom - Afghanistan (2012 - 2013). He recently served in various roles at the Headquarters Department of the Army, including Chief of Veterinary Preventive Medicine, Strategic Planner managing the Military Treatment Facilities transition to the Defense Health Agency, and Operations Officer for the Office of Secretary of Defense COVID-19 Task Force.
 
LTC Crawford’s professional military education includes the Command & General Staff College, Captains Career Course, and Officer Basic Leadership Course.
LTC Crawford’s significant military decorations include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (Oak Leaf Cluster), Army Commendation Medal (three Oak Leaf Clusters), Joint Service Achievement Medal, Army Achievement Medal (two Oak Leaf Clusters), Joint Meritorious Unit Award (Oak Leaf Cluster), Army Valorous Unit Award, Army Meritorious Unit Commendation, Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation, Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, Army Staff Identification Badge, Combat Action Badge, Combat Medical Badge, Expert Field Medical Badge, Pathfinder Badge, Air Assault Badge, Army Senior Parachutist Badge, Navy & Marine Corps Parachutist Insignia, and Fleet Marine Force Warfare Officer Insignia. His foreign decorations include the Polish Parachute Badge, German Armed Forces Proficiency Badge (Gold), and Danish Contingent March Medal.
 
LTC Crawford is the recipient of the BG Charles Elia Veterinary Excellence Medallion. (2009), Veterinary Services Exceptional Service Award (2013), DOD Veterinary Pathology Residency Program COL Inskeep Award (2018), LTC Daniel Holland Leadership Award (2021), and is a member of the Order of Military Medical Merit (2022). His civilian honors include the Colorado State University - Veterinary Teaching Hospital Food Animal and Equine Emergency Clinical Proficiency Awards (2009), and University of Minnesota Emerging Leader Award (2014).
 
LTC Crawford lives in Kensington Maryland, with his partner Meghan Kahn and eight-year-old son Caden Crawford.
