LIEUTENANT COLONEL BRIAN D. FARR
Commander, Veterinary Readiness Activity, Fort Belvoir

LTC Farr grew up internationally and in Texas with his parents and siblings. He has been married for 12 years to Morgan, and they have four children: William, Henry, Kenna, and Emily. He earned his Bachelor of Science from Texas A&M University in 2008 while participating in the Texas A&M Corps of Cadets. He earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine in 2012 and his Master of Science in Translational Research from the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine in 2021. He earned his veterinary specialty board certifications with the American College of Veterinary Preventive Medicine in 2021 and the American College of Veterinary Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation (Canine) in 2024.

LTC Farr commissioned into the U.S. Army in 2012 through the Health Professions Scholarship Program. His first previous assignment was the Chief of Epidemiology and Chief Operating Officer at the DoD MWD Veterinary Service and LTC Daniel E. Holland MWD Hospital on Joint Base San Antonio – Lackland Air Force Base, TX. Other previous assignments include Canine Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation Resident at the Penn Vet Working Dog Center, Philadelphia, PA; Force Veterinarian and Multi-Purpose Canine Program Manager, Naval Special Warfare Command, Naval Amphibious Base Coronado, CA; Battalion Veterinarian, 92nd Civil Affairs Battalion (Airborne), Fort Bragg, NC; and Veterinary Service Support Team Officer-in-Charge, 43rd Medical Detachment (Veterinary Service Support), Fort Hood, TX. While assigned to the 92nd Civil Affairs Battalion (Airborne), LTC Farr participated in Veterinary Global Health Engagements in Bosnia and Georgia in support of Special Operations Command Europe.

LTC Farr is a graduate of the AMEDD Officer Basic and Advanced Courses and the AMEDD Captains Career Course. Other military education includes the USDA Foreign Animal Disease Diagnostician Course, Veterinary Support to Theater of Operations Course, and Veterinary Support to Stability Operations Course.

LTC Farr’s significant awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal with four oak leaf clusters, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal with oak leaf cluster, Humanitarian Service Medal, Expert Field Medical Badge, Basic Parachutist Badge, and Air Assault Badge. LTC Farr has received the Brigadier General Charles V. L. Elia Award and the Veterinary Corps Exceptional Officer Award. His foreign decorations include the Italian Parachute Badge and the Norwegian Foot March Badge (Bronze).

His hobbies include running and training his Dutch Shepherd, training in his home gym, trying new foods, and doing anything outside with his family.
