COLONEL JODY A. BROWN
Commander, Public Health Command, East

 

COL Jody A. Brown began her military career in 1999, commissioned as a 2LT at the University of New Hampshire, in the Transportation Corps.  She spent her initial 6 years serving in various assignments to include Support and Transportation Platoon Leader, S-1, Transportation Support Officer, Movement Control Officer, and Protocol Officer. In December 2005, COL Brown received her oath of office into the AMEDD and transferred into the Nurse Corps.

COL Brown’s first assignment as an Army Nurse, was at Tripler Army Medical Center (TAMC) where she spent her foundational years as a staff nurse on the inpatient medicine/telemetry followed by the Clinical Nurse Officer in Charge (CNOIC) for the Medical Specialties Clinic. She then deployed for 15 months with the 2nd BCT, 25th Infantry Division as the Brigade Nurse in Taji, Iraq. Succeeding her deployment, COL Brown was reassigned to Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Washington, DC where she served as the Assistant CNOIC for the Inpatient Medical/Surgical ward followed by the CNOIC for the Inpatient Pediatrics ward. During this time, COL Brown was selected into the Family Nurse Practitioner Program at the Uniformed Services University of Health and Services (USUHS) for FY2010. She completed her Master’s degree as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) in May 2012 with a follow-on assignment to TAMC where she was assigned to the Family Medicine Clinic, practicing as a FNP.  In 2013, she was afforded the opportunity to serve as the Medical Director of the Warrior Ohana Medical Home (WOMH), the only Community Based Medical Home on the island Oahu. COL Brown returned to the East Coast where she served as the Deputy Commander for Clinical Services at Ft. Meade MEDDAC, followed by assumption of command at Kirk U.S. Army Health Clinic at Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD. Succeeding Senior Service College, COL Brown served as the Deputy Commander for Inpatient Services at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, TX.

COL Brown’s professional degrees includes a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of New Hampshire, a Masters of Nursing specializing in Family Nurse Practitioner from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, and Doctorate of Nursing Practice from Chatham University. She is a graduate of the Transportation Officer’s Basic Course, Combined Logistics Captain’s Career Course, Combined Arms and Services Staff School, Command and General Staff College, and Senior Service College.

 Her awards and decorations includes: the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal (4) Army Commendation Medal (4), Army Achievement Medal (3),National Defense Service Medal (1 Bronze Star), Iraqi Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon (2), and the Army Service Ribbon. COL Brown is also a member of the Order of Military Medical Merit.

COL Brown is married to Stephen Brown of Seattle, Washington. Mr. Brown is a Colonel in the Army’s Functional Area Branch, Force Management, and is currently USARPAC Chief of Force Management.
